Legal stumbling blocks for artists in the establishment phase
Course for members
Involuntarily self-employed, you say?
Here is a course for our members (and young art students) on everything you need to know about responsibility, rights, legal pitfalls, and tips on how to navigate life as a professional artist during the start-up phase. Norwegian Visual Artists lawyers Kim Erik Dahlskås and Yngvild Greiner are hosting this course in collaboration with UKS. The course provides an overview of the key legal aspects that artists should be aware of when setting up and running their own business. It is structured into several sections, each focusing on themes that often arise in the assistance requests they receive. They will look at situations artists commonly face, such as ‘start-up and establishment’, ‘contracts and fees’, ‘social security and insurance’, ‘copyright’, as well as ‘operation and risk’.
Topics covered include:
• Choose the right business structure and register your business
• Understand tax rules and VAT requirements for artists
• Learn about contracts, fees and negotiations
• Get an overview of social security, sick pay, pensions and insurance for the self-employed
• Protect your copyright
• Manage liability and dispute resolution
There will be plenty of time for participants to ask questions and share their experiences.
