Close Readings: Unlearning Exercises
How can we value reproductive labour as an essential part of productivity? How can we feed the collective imagination towards unlearning capitalism?
For this month’s iteration of Close Readings, our no-preparation-needed monthly reading group, we focus on excerpts from the controversial – and completely sold out – book Unlearning Exercises: Art Organizations as Sites for Unlearning. A collection of theoretical texts and an exercise manual, Unlearning Exercises offers suggestions for new ways of making institutions and collaborations, asking us to reconsider the value of reproductive labour (cleaning, fixing, caring) and to fight for inclusivity in our art institutions. We will do an exercise together and discuss!
The book can be found in its entirety here.
You can read it in advance but do feel very welcome to come unprepared. Excerpts will be chosen for us to study together. All levels of engagement and questions are welcome. We want to create a safe and open environment for reflection and learning, even when the reading material is challenging.
Everyone is welcome to join!
