THE BLACKENING OF THE CROW
– (DE-) STORYING SUSTAINABILITY
with special guest LIISA-RÁVNÁ FINBOG / RÁMAVUOL LIISA-RÁVDNÁ
How can the concept of sustainability be understood as a colonial appropriation of Indigenous and non-Western ontologies?
As spring approaches, we continue our Close Readings on communities, sustainability, kitchens and invisible labour. We are super pleased to host Liisa-Rávná Finbog who shares with us her essay ‘The blackening of the crow – (De-) Storying Sustainability’. In the text, Liisa-Rávná uses the old sami story of the crow’s blackening to discuss the (un)holy trinity that is colonisation, capitalism and sustainability, but from a perspective born of a Sámi way of being, knowing and doing.
The text can be downloaded for free below.
You can read the article in advance but do feel very welcome to come unprepared. All levels of engagement and questions are welcome. We want to create a safe and open environment for reflection and learning, even when the reading material is challenging.
Everyone is welcome to join!
