Opening: 17 August 2018, 7pm
Exhibition: 18 – 26 August 2018
Venue: UKS, St. Olavs gate 3
Throughout Spring 2018 the main focus of UKS’ union work has been on artists’ housing. In co-operation with the architecture firm Fragment, UKS has developed a sketch project and done a feasibility study with the goal of creating a model for artists’ housing that can be realized in Hovinbyen in Oslo. On 17 August 2018 at 7pm we warmly welcome you to an exhibition presenting the results of this project—called UKS Kunstnerbolig—at UKS in St. Olavs gate, Oslo.
Creating good living and working spaces for artists has been important for UKS since the organisation’s very beginning almost 100 years ago. A historic example of this interest can be seen through the artists’ houses in Trolltun, Bøler that were built in 1959, a project initiated by UKS. With UKS Kunstnerbolig we have gained a knowledge base for working with new models for artists’ housing in Oslo. Our goal is to strengthen the cultural infrastructure of the city and to contribute a model for housing that can be scaled and re-created in other places in Norway.
In the past few months UKS and Fragment formed a reference group—consisting of artists, the UKS’ Chair and Deputy Chair, and members of the Fragment team—with the aim of sharing knowledge of what could take to create a housing model that responds to artists’ needs today.
The project is supported by the Agency for Planning and Building, City of Oslo.
We’re looking forward to presenting the results of the process so far.
