#40 HOW TO PRACTICE?
JULES FISCHER

Considering collegial exchange, informal learning and attempts at friendship as a fundamental part of our remit, UKS is pleased to reintroduce HOW TO PRACTICE?, our popular walk-in workshop! Rotating local and international practitioners in the cultural field teach their particular response to this essential question, serving up their tricks and toolboxes, fears and desires, spreadsheets or yoga positions.

This year’s first HOW TO PRACTICE? features artist JULES FISCHER, who shares their tips and tricks over a hot bowl of soup.

‘We visual artists’, says Jules ‘tend to think that we need to do everything ourselves.’ Jules works with large-scale performance which is always produced in teams and across disciplines. In this HOW TO PRACTICE?, Jules discusses how collaborations and collaboratively produced works challenge our ideas of ownership, assistance and visibility – and ponders why it is so hard to ask for help to do your accounting or organise your hard drive.

Jules Fischer (b. 1988, DK) lives and works in Copenhagen. Fischer is a graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts with studies at the Danish School of Performing Arts, and Art and Social Practice at Portland State University, Oregon. Recent solo exhibitions and projects include VANITAS at Den Frie, Copenhagen (2022); the exhibition and performance The most beautiful part of your body is where it’s headed at Bikubenfonden, Copenhagen (2021) and Willumsens Museum, Frederikssund (2022). They choreographed Dryppende stof at the Glyptotek Copenhagen (2021).
