CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS
FOCUS GROUP ON ART, POLITICS, AND CULTURAL POLICY

NB: Both focus groups are now fully booked.

In 1970, Norwegian economist Aina Helgesen headed a national survey on artists’ economic and social situation around the country for the Norwegian Institute for Social Research. The survey was the first of its kind in Norway and showed the dire state of artists’ financial lives in Norway and created strong debate. Helgesen’s work resulted in an exhibition at UKS called Kunstnerkår (Norwegian artists’ economic and social status).

For their new commission for UKS’ 100th-anniversary exhibition, artists Ruth Beale and Amy Feneck, who collaborate as The Alternative School of Economics, are taking inspiration from Helgesen’s survey. They are now seeking Norwegian and/or Norway-based artists to take part in two online focus groups, discussing questions around the connections between art, politics, and policy. All artists, of all ages, are welcome to sign up—no specialties or academic knowledge is required.

The focus group’s work will feed into the Alternative School of Economics’ research. UKS offers a fee of 400 kr per person for participation in one of the groups.

Focus groups are planned on:
— Monday 28 June, 11 am – 12.30 pm (Oslo time)
— Wednesday 30 June, 1.30 – 3 pm (Oslo time)

Please email info@uks.no to sign up for one of the focus groups (please specify which one you’d like to participate in) or if you have further questions. Participants will be selected on a first come, first served basis.
