TAI SHANI: "The Neon Hieroglyph"

As a part of UKS’ 100th anniversary exhibition 100 YEARS OF CONVIVIALITY: what you see is what you can imagine at Kunstnernes Hus, we are hosting a series of events during the opening weekend and onwards.

The Neon Hieroglyph by the artist Tai Shani is a 57-minute series of poetic considerations on ergot, the fungus that grows on rye and other common grains and from which LSD is derived. Various historical feminized nodes and other orbital considerations form a hallucination that takes us from the cellular to the galactic, from Paleolithic cave markings to dancing plagues, communist psychedelic witches, hyper-sexual fungi, descents, and ascents.

Also the sun! Sun is a ghost that haunts the night!

The Neon Hieroglyph is commissioned and produced by Manchester International Festival. The project is also commissioned by The British Art Show and is developed in collaboration with Serpentine’s Back to Earth project.
