What happens to all the clothes we lose, forget about or throw away? Every year in Norway, we discard more than 80,000 tonnes of clothing! Using forgotten clothes and textiles gathered from recycling centres, UKS and Future in our hands invite children and families to a creative workshop about textiles, reuse and weaving.

The workshop is led by textile artist Amanda Vesthardt, who has hosted weekly workshops for children and families at the children’s museum Young V&A in London. Together, we will explore weaving and other textile techniques. The children will weave with used textiles and try out a range of different techniques, working both on their own small loom and on a large communal loom that the whole group will contribute to.

Clothes, bed linen and other textiles will be transformed into something new that you can take home with you. The point is not to create something perfect – it’s the joy of experimenting, learning and creating with your hands.

ABOUT

Amanda Vesthardt (b. 1993, Denmark) is an interdisciplinary artist working primarily with textiles and fibre art. With a background in fashion, she often explores different aspects of textile waste and the relationship between our bodies and the textiles we wear.

Future in our hands is one of Norway’s largest environmental and solidarity organisations. They work for a fair world where we care for people, nature and the climate.

The workshop is kindly supported by Sparebanksstiftelsen DNB.
