13 August – 10 October 2021

Opening: Friday 13 August, 5–8pm
Exhibition: 14 August – 10 October 2021

Blackness in Democracy’s Graveyard is Marseille-based artist Dominique White’s (b. 1993, UK) first big solo exhibition in Scandinavia. Through sculptural interventions, White presents a culmination of thoughts and research surrounding abolition of the state, afro-futurism, and the intangibility of statelessness. This new body of work draws inspiration from the global protests and riots relating to George Floyd’s death, the toppling of Confederate and Colonial statues in the UK and US in 2020, and the act of sailing under a “flag of convenience;” switching the country registration of a vessel repeatedly until sailing under no state or registration. The project as a whole will be an active rejection of authority and erasure, and a protest against the continued existence in a system that relies on the de-humanisation and instability of Blackness.
