COMMUNE: bbberlin x Frederik Worm
Please join us for COMMUNE – the event series moulding the new UKS spaces in Keysers gate 1 into an artistic, theoretical and social meeting place. At the height of summer, UKS and bbberlin invite artist Frederik Worm to present four recent moving image works and a series of recent artist books, all of which engage in questions of witnessing and being defined by the terms of imagined communities, whether national, aesthetic, stipulated by class, or sub-cultural. Worm has invited two colleagues to respond to his works: New York-based artist Dora Budor and Oslo-based writer and curator Mike Sperlinger. Their generous readings will be presented on the night.
This evenings presentation is a collaboration between bbberlin and UKS. UKS’ Minibar will serve refreshments from 7 to 10pm. All are warmly welcome.
Frederik Worm (b. 1991, DK) lives and works in Berlin. His work explores the production, distribution and possession of intimacies. An integral part of his praxis is collaborations with other artists or groups. He is the co-founder of the screening programmes Terrassen and CapitalWash#. His work has recently been shown at Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art, Copenhagen (DK); Cafe Oto, London (UK); Berlin Atonal, Berlin (DE) and CPH:DOX, Copenhagen (DK).
bbberlin is an art project started by Mickael Marman in 2010 in Oslo, initially under the name Knekt. Since 2019, bbberlin has shown presentations, mainly solo, often in domestic settings, but also at art venues in Berlin and other European cities. Previous presentations include a group show at Systema, Marseille (FR) and the presentation of artist Merlin Carpenter at Rosenheim Borgenhoff, Oslo (NO).
Dora Budor (b. 1984, HR) is a New York-based artist and writer. Her recent solo exhibitions include Nottingham Contemporary, Nottingham (UK), De Ateliers, Amsterdam (NL) and Kunsthalle Basel, Basel (CH). Her work is currently on view in the Whitney Biennial 2024: Even Better Than the Real Thing at the Whitney Museum of American Art and Hard Ground at MoMA PS1 in New York (US) and will be included in the upcoming 15th Gwangju Biennale in South Korea. Budor was awarded Guggenheim Fellowship in Fine Arts in 2019, and in 2018 she received Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. She is a regular contributor to art publications, including Mousse magazine and Texte zur Kunst.
Mike Sperlinger (b. 1977, UK) is a writer, curator and currently Head of Programme at the Office for Contemporary Art Norway. In 2002 he co-founded LUX, which drew on the legacy of the London Filmmakers’ Co-operative and other artist-run organisations and stayed on as Assistant Director for more than a decade. From 2013 to 2024, he was Professor of Writing and Theory at KHiO, Oslo (NO).
COMMUNE was initially developed by UKS Interim Artistic Director Live Drønen. This event is curated by bbberlin and UKS Director Miriam Wistreich.
