Manifesto for Maintenance Art 1969!
We close the reading group for summer with a bang: with Mierle Laderman Ukeles’ Manifesto for Maintenance Art 1969!
In the manifesto, Ukeles asks: after the revolution, who is going to pick up the garbage on Monday morning? The artist weaves together ecological and planetary considerations with question of labour and care in a text that still resonates more than 50 years after it was written. This is a short and fun text that continues to inspire many, including UKS’ director Miriam Wistreich. She hopes it will inspire you too!
The manifesto can be found here.
Close Readings is a no-preparation-needed reading group. You are welcome to read the text in advance but do feel very welcome to come unprepared. This is a short and fun text that continues to inspire many, including UKS’ director Miriam Wistreich. She hopes it will inspire you too! All levels of engagement and questions are welcome. We want to create a safe and open environment for reflection and learning, even when the reading material is challenging.
Everyone is welcome to join!
