100 YEARS OF CONVIVIALITY
BOOK: KVISTEN PÅ GRENEN, GRENEN PÅ TREET

As part of UKS’ 100th anniversary program 100 YEARS OF CONVIVIALITY , we’re pleased to announce the publication of the first comprehensive book about UKS’ history. The publication is titled Kvisten på grenen, grenen på treet: Unge Kunstneres Samfund 1921 – 2021 and it was launched on the day of UKS’ 100th birthday, 28 October 2021, following the seminar Artists Organizing Artists, at the new main library in Oslo, Deichman Bjørvika.

The anniversary book is supported by Billedkunstnernes Vederlagsfond (BKV) enabling us to make the book available for free to all members of UKS’ umbrella organisation, Norske Billedkunstnere (NBK). Members are invited to pick up a copy of the book at Kunstnernes Hus from 12 November, the day of the grand opening of UKS’ anniversary exhibition what you can see is what you can imagine. Members who are not able to collect the book in person can order it by sending an email to members@uks.no, (domestic shipping costs of 125NOK will be charged).

Non-members can buy the book directly from the publisher Press’ online shop, and various other book retail stores.

The publication consists of five art historical texts, each covering two decades, three artistic contributions, and four shorter texts focusing on specific topics.

The five main texts are written by Øystein Sjåstad (art historian), Frode Sandvik (curator), Victoria Durnak (artist and writer), Marit Paasche (art historian), and Sara R. Yazdani (art historian).

The artistic contributions are made by artists Geir Tore Holm & Søssa Jørgensen, Siri Hjorth & Sebastian Kjølaas, and Wendimagegn Belete.

The shorter contributions are written by Ana Maria Bresciani (curator and art historian), Maria Horvei (art historian and editor), Jan Verwoert (writer), previous UKS Director Rhea Dall, and UKS Chair Steffen Håndlykken.

In addition to these contributions, the book consists of an impressive visual archive from UKS’ first 100 years. Nina M. Schjønsby and Halvor Haugen are the editors of the book and it is designed by Ian Brown.
