#42 HOW TO PRACTICE?
ADMIR BATLAK

UKS’ popular walk-in workshop HOW TO PRACTICE? considers collegial exchange, informal learning and attempts at friendship to be a fundamental part of our remit. Rotating local and international practitioners in the cultural field teach their conspicuous version of this essential question, serving up their tricks and toolboxes, fears and desires, spreadsheets or yoga positions as UKS serves cold soup.

ADMIR BATLAK has a surprisingly unglamourous past in the fashion industry, where he ran his own brands, won awards and was dubbed ‘Norway’s new design hope’ before leaving it behind for the art world. He is now hard at work in the studio preparing his upcoming solo exhibition at MUNCH. At UKS he will talk about sparkling fabrics, switching fields and how one stays both excited and sane in the face of a great challenge.

BIOGRAPHY
Admir Batlak (b. 1982, Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina) works with textiles, sculpture and clothing. Central to his work is experimentation with craft and development of new materials. Through a wide range of techniques and references to fashion, history, social movements and mainstream culture, he creates complex expressions that observe the present, and explore questions of taste, ideals and identity.
