What makes a good gallerist? How is an artwork placed with the right buyer? And how does one actually go about getting gallery representation? Can getting a gallery ever be detrimental to an artist’s career?
On Friday 17 June, 5.30–6.30pm, UKS grabs the chance to put all our unfiltered questions – and yours! – to an actual gallerist when we welcome NADA-resident and art dealer JACKIE KLEMPAY of SITUATIONS in New York.
Jackie Klempay is a curator and gallerist living and working in New York’s Chinatown. Klempay owns and runs SITUATIONS, a contemporary art gallery focusing on emerging and overlooked artists. Her curatorial practice revolves around feminism and queer culture and she has curated exhibitions for Aetopoulos, Athens; White Columns, New York; Safe Gallery, Brooklyn; and Golestani Gallery, Düsseldorf. Her practice has been mentioned in Artforum, The New Yorker, The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.
Klempay’s residency with UKS is made possible in collaboration with The New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA). NADA is an American non-profit arts organization dedicated to the cultivation, support, and advancement of new voices in contemporary art.
The MINIBAR is kindly hosted by artist-run gallery 222T while UKS is under renovation.
The project is kindly funded by the Norwegian General Consulate in New York. This event is spoken in English and 222T is wheelchair accessible. The talk will be live streamed via YouTube here.
