WHY ORGANIZE? UKS – ART INSTITUTION AND ARTIST UNION

Time: Thursday 13 December, 3:30pm
Venue: Trondheim Art Academy

On Thursday 13 December at Trondheim Art Academy, UKS Director, Rhea Dall, will talk about the main rationales and objectives of UKS—thinking about how UKS works for young artists, why it is important to organize, and why become a member of UKS? Dall will talk about UKS’ exhibition program as well as recent political work—how UKS has secured funding for an ambitious artist housing draft proposal as well as Norsk Kulturråd subsidies for artist-run spaces (“Arrangørstøtteordningen”) and for paid positions to artists’ assistants (“Kunstnerassistentordningen”).

This event follows UKS’ recent talks in Stavanger (Rogaland Kunstsenter), Trondheim (RAKE/Coast Contemporary), Lofoten (Nordland kunst- og filmfagskole), and Bergen (Hordaland Kunstsenter and Bergen Art Academy KMD). UKS’ traveling talks makes it easier for young artists as well as art students to be in touch with UKS, creating a feedback loop to impact and improve UKS’ future agenda!

Rhea Dall is a curator, critic, and since 2017 the Director of UKS. In 2016 Dall was one of the Artistic Directors of Bergen Assembly and in 2013 she co-founded PRAXES Center for Contemporary Art, a non-profit institution for international art and research situated in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Dall has previously held positions at Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen, at the Berlin Biennale, and at the Danish & Nordic Pavilions in Venice.
